Ngabuburit. It is said that the etymology of ngabuburit taken from sundanese language means “waiting for sunset”. Actualy it can’t be related to Ramadhan fasting month since there is no detail meaning to connect Ramadhan month and ngabuburit.
However, many local people especially in java island use this term to wait for the sundown meal of day-long fast during Ramadhan month by conducting some exciting activities to wait for sunset.

Many ads in local TV, radio, news paper and teve program which use this term during Ramadhan month has an important role in spreading “ngabuburit” term throughout Indonesia island and used the term nationally to wait for sunset. Many people actually don’t realize that this term came from Sundanese language and think that this word taken from Indonesian dictionary. If you are interested in this term, you can browse it in the internet.
The activity of Ngabuburit usually held at 4 o’clock at noon. Many young muslim in Indonesia spending their rest day to any positive activities to wait for sunset such as; playing guitar with friends, hunting ramadhan food, hang around in mall while look around things to buy, browsing the internet, go to library to read books, go to the beach and etc. Generally, in Ramadhan month many ngabuburit activities should be related to Sunnah (religious activity as Rasul tought) like attending religious’ speech in mosque, pesantren kilat (islamic school opened for public), reciting the Holy Qur’an, discuss about islam’s obligation, conducting social program to visit orphanage and many more.
Basically, Ramadhan is a great opportunity to enhance our Iman (faith) by filling each hours with positive activity as Rasul Muhammad SAW tought. Meanwhile, many people usualy don’t have regular bustle at noon because even the student and the worker has leisure time. While they don’t have task to do, it’s better fill up our freetime to improve our faith unto Allah with positive ngabuburit about Islam’s rites, it can make us getting closer to Allah.
